WiFi Fun with WiFiFoFum I found a really cool app called WiFiFoFum which I had to install on my K-Jam. It’s the best WiFi scanner and war driving software for Pocket PC 2003 and Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC and Smartphone edition AND it uses the latest features of .net compact framework v2. This thing just rocks. I turned it on while I have been driving around for the past few days and have collected some interesting information. I have identified 1039 wireless access points, and 445 of them have WEP turned off! In terms of SSIDs used. here’s the top 10: SSID Total (blank) 151 NETGEAR 79 default 72 Wireless 35 belkin54g 26 linksys 22 DLINK 21 Motorola 16 Home 8 Telstra 8 There are also some really weird/funny SSIDs used. My favourites include: baldcheesemaker Blue Monkey choctoffee Crack n Ho’s DOG4YOU dont evilair finchorama freaky Get off my land! h4z0r HACKERS-LAB LordWireless Netwook nowires shrubbery sodoffbaldrick Sweet Lips twinboys Virused Walkabout WHITEFANG WOMBAT WOMBAT999 I couldn’t make these up if I tried!! The app can connect to a GPS and record LAT/LONG information. I don’t have a GPS, but I reckon it should save the information from the PhoneCellBroadcast information to give some basic location information. Anyways, if you are curious as to the WiFi networks around you, grab the app and give it a run. I’ll keep it on a bit longer and see how many more networks I can find. I’m actually not that surprised, because I did a similar thing going home one evening. I was just surprised how many unsecured wifi networks were out there. Anonymous May 03, 2006 Your data on % with WEP on/off almost exactly matches my data here in Seattle!  Also how people name their networks.  The data I found is here: http://www.networkgarage.com/sherman/2006/04/wardriving_is_fun_insightful_1.html Sherman Anonymous June 16, 2009 PingBack from http://fixmycrediteasily.info/story.php?id=17791 Additional resources Last updated on 2006-05-03
