Guest Columnist : What Should I Write About ?? I’ve been asked to do a regular column (actually more like a page) for a local tech enthusiasts magazine. I feel honored to have been asked, but now I have to face up to writing something for a fast approaching deadline. I’ve been given a blank sheet of paper and it’s all up to me, but to be honest. I’m struggling with the angle I should take. Since it’s print, I have a long lead time and the timing of the next edition is September. September! I can’t think beyond what I am going to have for dinner tonight. Sheeesh. Here’s some of my ideas My recollections of the industry over the past 20 years, with a particular emphasis on the last 10 Random samples of ASCII Art that I have collected over the years A deconstruction of the current broadband situation in Australia An Insider view into Microsoft Australia - What makes it tick. Stories about my kids and their adventures with technology Vista How Tos Geek Jokes Are any of these interesting? What would you like to read? The ASCII art & geek jokes I can take or leave. Microsoft Australia might be interesting - provided it isn’t a puff piece. Your kids experiments with tech might be cool. I reckon readers (be they geeks or not) can tell whether you’re passionate about something - and it comes across some much better if you are. Which of these are you most passionate about dude? N.B. Just don’t write about writing. That’s like blogging about blogging ;-) Anonymous July 23, 2006 The comment has been removed Anonymous July 23, 2006 Insider view into Microsoft Australia definitely! Anonymous July 23, 2006 Depends on what the audience is?  Dave Glover mentioned a cool concept the other day… a futureoligist… Maybe you could come up with some cool futuristic stuff? Anonymous July 23, 2006 Well, for your first one you could always plug the TTB! Anonymous July 24, 2006 The comment has been removed Anonymous July 24, 2006 I also think the MS Australia would be good. Ther other thing would be to talk about working in IT and possibly provide career tips and stuff. this would be good for say some IT Pro who may not be quite sure on where to go next… depending on your reading audience of course. Anonymous September 16, 2006 A while back I wrote a post about my contribution for a local tech enthusiasts magazine and I wondered… Additional resources Last updated on 2006-07-24
