ASP.NET v2 Site of the Day : Blackwoods.com.au I got an email a few weeks back from an excited developer “…we are launching our new eCommerce website. We successfully converted it from classic ASP to ASP.Net 2.0 developed in VS.Net 2005 - excellent development product.” He then went on to say… “The site is completely ASP.Net 2.0 developed in VS.Net 2005. We’ve been using the product for over a year now and I have to admit that it’s fantastic. It has radically reduced our development and allowed us to do bigger and better things. Keep up the good work Microsoft.” So, if you are looking for Industrial Supply, Tools, Safety Equipment, Abrasives, Clothing and more , then Blackwoods is the place for you!!! I like getting emails like this. Any other locally developed ASP.NET v2 sites out there?? These were converted to RTM the week it was released. We only had a minor hiccup when migrating code from Beta2 to RTM (nothing major). It may have been great for the developers, but the UI is seriously lacking form the perspectives of this here shopper. It really feels like it was designed by a coder ;) you know, everything sorted in a fixed heirarchy, one that probably matches the db schema. But as a user, I want a site that lets me SHOP. For example, the site is layed out as if I already know the exact product I want. That is, I have to navigate by brand, not product type. If that’s the case, then I’m probably shopping for a best price, but they don’t list any. But most of the time I know I want a certain product that does a certain job. Brand maybe a final deciding factor, rarely if ever a first factor. So I want to see drills for example, ALL BRANDS, then sort them by cordless or impact drills, or drill presses etc. And I want to compare them, see why I should pay more for one drill over another. That to me is shopping, and I do buy the kind of stuff blackwoods sells, but I sure don’t want to go through the agony of trying to buy from their site. Also take a look at the source of the page, it has hundreds of keywords; also Ctrl+A the page and you will see this big block of dark blue text that you cannot see; I’m google would have given them a bad rank. It’s also good that they are advertising their new web site for release 23rd Feb when it is now March and they haven’t released it. Additional resources Last updated on 2006-03-08
