ASP.NET Overtakes JSP and Java Servlets Jim posted a note about this bit of news- ASP.NET overtakes JSP and Java Servlets . The graph is cool, but I wont be excited until that redline gets overtaken!! Comments Anonymous March 30, 2004 Interesting stats, personally I think by the time ASP.NET Whidbey is out and about and released to the public ASP.NET will be in the lead. Anonymous March 30, 2004 To be fair, those stats (or rather the common interpretation of the stats) have been widely rubbished by the java folks :-) Anonymous March 30, 2004 This is also ignoring the bigger players in the market… I was surprised to find that PHP is on 1.3 million IP’s and 15,054,623 Domains - according to netcraft anyway - that means it’s compeltely outclassing everything in the graph in deployment. JAVA, ASP.NET, Cold fusion are all small pie. Then again, ASP.NET is much quicker to develop in than PHP… Anonymous March 31, 2004 Yeah, I was thinking when I read the comment that it’s strange that PHP isn’t mentioned at all. I guess it depends on how you think about it though, PHP is installed on many machines, but is it actually being used on those machines? I know that my domains certainly have it enabled, but I’ve never felt the urge to use it. I think language choice is less relevant with standardized interfaces like Web Services anyways, it’s cool to finally have an interface which many languages finally implement interoperably. Anonymous March 31, 2004 The comment has been removed Anonymous March 31, 2004 mmmm … a stat that ignores 80% servlet market ( struts, webwork, spring, … ) Folks, nobody uses /servlet for mapping. How can this stat be credible if only looks for .jsp, .jhtml, .gsp, and /servlet ? Anonymous March 31, 2004 arent 80% of all stats made up??? Anonymous March 31, 2004 I thought it was more like 68%? ;) Additional resources Last updated on 2004-03-30
